Have we lost the momentum to keep up with our current status in Afganistan? I post this as my brother deploys for the 3rd time since his tenure of 9yrs with the Army. I joined the FRG this past spring in preparation for the troops deploying on their final mission to Iraq. It's settling to know that this mission, in about a year will be complete, and we will hopefully be out.
My awareness has been heightened since I married a military man just over 2 years ago. I've only just begun trying to understand all the lingo. Although 3 of my grandfather's were in some form of service, Navy, Air Force, or Army, I still am undereducated about what they truly experienced. Stories are inspiring and one of my grandfather's even wrote and published a book about his life, which he co-wrote with my grandmother.

I see medals of honor and coins received from trainings and missions, and can only be empathetic on the surface because I wasn't present during that period. What I do know that every time I see a soldier in public, or a veteran in public, I make it a point to stop and thank him/her. Civilians seldom realize what our nation does to protect it's people. I'm constantly reminded by my husband who works for the Army National Guard, and my brother overseas.
